European Consumer Food Waste Forum

How can we reduce food waste?
Solutions from the European Consumer Food Waste Forum

In the EU, over 60% of food waste is generated at consumption (both in- and out-of-home), thus interventions focusing on consumer behaviour are essential to reduce waste and achieve related environmental, economic and social benefits.

Upon the initiative of leading MEPs, the European Commission (Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety and the Joint Research Centre) has set up the European Consumer Food Waste Forum, bringing together 16 researchers and practitioners in food waste prevention from various disciplines, countries, and sectors. Between October 2021 and May 2023, experts worked together to develop an evidence-based compendium of best practices to tackle consumer food waste.

This event will be a timely opportunity to learn about the solutions and tools proposed and to discuss key learnings with the Forum members.
